MAPLEWOOD, N.J. - Two men robbed the Wawa gas station on Springfield Avenue at gunpoint on Sunday afternoon and fled the area on foot, Maplewood Police announced in a press release.
The men approached the gas station attendant standing inside of a booth at 1:44 p.m. with a handgun and demanded money, according to Maplewood Police.
One of the men pointed the handgun at the attendant while the other man held the attendant in a corner of the booth while they stole money from the cash register and then fled toward Chancellor Avenue, police said. The men were wearing black-hooded sweatshirts with the hoods pulled and their faces covered when the robbery occurred.
Maplewood Capt. Dawn Williams said on Monday afternoon that the amount of money stolen is unknown at this time.
The men are described as black, in the early- to mid-20s and approximately 5'10.
The incident is under investigation. No additional information is available at this time, according to Williams.
