I am emailing you to let you know about an incident that took place today at Columbia High School.

At approximately 12:05 this afternoon, Columbia High School administration was made aware of a potential fight involving several students. Upon immediate investigation, CHS activated a Code Yellow. Code Yellow means that students remain with their teacher in their locked classrooms and normal classroom routines continue.

The CHS administration contacted the Maplewood Police Department who responded and began an investigation. During the Code Yellow the individuals involved were identified and questioned. The students provided the administration and the police department with the necessary information to allow the officers to declare the building safe. At approximately 12:50 pm, working with the Maplewood Police Department, Mr. Woolard issued the release of the Code Yellow. This matter has been turned over to the police department.

I would like to commend the students who reached out to administration as soon as they felt that there might be possible disruption at Columbia High School. I also would like to commend the students, staff and administration for their prompt response and cooperation during the Code Yellow.

Student and staff safety is always our first concern in the provision of a quality education. Thank you for your partnership in the education and safety of our students.

Thank you,

Dr. Gayle Carrick, Interim Assistant Superintendent for Administration"
