MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Chief Jimmy DeVaul said the victim of a Wednesday, Dec. 4 shooting in Maplewood is fine. He emailed TAPinto SOMA that the man "was treated and released from the hospital" the same night. "We have already obtained his statement.  We are following up on leads and tracking down video," he wrote.

DeVaul wrote, "We have a photo of the suspect but [are] not prepared to release at this time. We do not know his name but indication is our victim may know who he is. [We] need to see if there is a connection to our victim first."

The police press release issued following the shooting near the Wawa at 1511 Springfield Avenue, Maplewood, said, "A Police Investigation revealed that a 28-year-old male sustained a non life threatening gun shot wound to the upper thigh. Incident occurred on 45th Street in Maplewood.

Victim was transported to University Hospital in Newark for further care.

Actor was described as a black male, wearing a ski mask, a gray hoodie, and blue jeans. The actor was last scene fleeing the area on foot south on Chancellor Avenue towards Irvington. No vehicle(s) were reported to be involved in the incident.
