SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — The most recent Redevelopment Plan Draft for the 270 & 299 Irvington Avenue Project has been posted on the South Orange website. Input is sought from the community on the draft of the plan.
"This draft as of 09/15/2020 incorporated comments that were submitted by the community via email, the online link, and at the [streaming] meeting," discussing the plan, said Village Trustee Summer Jones; the recording of the Sept. 9 meeting may be seen on this South Orange website page under the tab "misc." Jones added, "There might be a few more tweaks to the documents but this is the most comprehensive one to date."
At the meeting, it was explained that the proposed redevelopment would create one cohesive zoning district; the current layout of the lots included in the plan crosses four different zoning districts. Community concerns including parking, sustainability issues, traffic concerns, and affordable housing were also addressed. The proposed buildings will be mixed use, with retail space at ground level and apartments above. A large green space in the rear of the main site will remain open for residents' use and parking will be underground.
Jones said the goal is to introduce this to the Board of Trustees at its next regular meeting on Tuesday, September 29. "During the course of the project, there will be many opportunities to provide public comment. If you have feedback prior to Monday, please feel free to email Trustee Zuckerman and I or fill out the online link," said Jones.
The public is also welcome to attend Tuesday's streaming board meeting virtually for the introduction and speak during the public comment period.
