In Maplewood, pre-payment of taxes can be made at the tax office window with a check before noon on Friday, Dec. 29, according to an update from Maplewood Mayor Victor DeLuca on his Facebook page. "Be careful of liability of Alternative Minimum Tax by large tax exemption in 2017," DeLuca also wrote on the Facebook post.

The Maplewood Tax Office is located in the municipal building at 574 Valley St. and will be open until 12:15 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29.

SOUTH ORANGE

The update provided on the South Orange website on Dec. 14 is as follows:

THE PREPAY FEATURE HAS BEEN ENABLED ON THE VILLAGE TAX PAYMENT WEBSITE.

Please be advised that you may now prepay your 2018 taxes on our website beyond the first quarter that is coming due in February. Due to many inquiries received in my office regarding the upcoming new tax regulation and requests to prepay some part of 2018, we have asked our software company to make the feature available for anyone interested in paying more than just the first quarter. If your taxes are paid from escrow through your mortgage company, you might want to talk to them first and arrange with them not to pay your upcoming taxes. I hope this will help answer many of the questions we have been getting.

An additional update was posted to the South Orange website on Dec. 28:

Cash / Check Tax Payments Before the End of Year

Please note that all cash and check payments should be received and processed in the Villages Tax Office by Friday, December 29, 2017, at 1 p.m in order to be considered prepaid for the 2018 tax year. Payments not received by then, can be made online at http://www.southorange.org/302/Check-Pay-My-Taxes-Online until Sunday, December 31, 2017.

Another update was posted to the South Orange website on Dec. 30:

Prepay 2018 Taxes

What you need to know regarding your prepay taxes.

This is to inform all tax payers who made online payment at our website after 6:00 p.m. on 12/28/17 and those who made the last minute rush to the office on Friday to make payments that your payments may not be processed until after the completion of the end of the year process. Due to the volume of payments received and the timing of our bank deposits  which has to be completed by the close of business on 12/29/17, some payments has not been processed. Therefore, if you make an online payment, your payment confirmation  will serve as your proof of payment, and if you pay at the office, your paid receipt will be your proof of payment.
