MAPLEWOOD AND SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - It's Christmas tree collection time in the two towns. Here's what you need to know before putting items out for collection:

MAPLEWOOD

The Department of Public Works has begun the annual collection of Christmas trees, according to an update on the Maplewood website. "Residents need only place their Christmas trees curbside and they will be picked up," according to the website. Collection will continue through January 31.  Residents are asked to contact the Department of Public Works at 973-762-1175 with any questions.

SOUTH ORANGE

Christmas tree pickups began the week of January 1, according to the South Orange website.

"Trees must be free of ornaments, lighting, decorations, plastic wrap or tree stands," according to the update which also states that trees should be placed curbside, and not in the street.  

No wreaths or other holiday decorations will be collected.
