MAPLEWOOD, NJ -- The sixth-seeded Columbia boys basketball team defeated Newark West Side, 76-66, to move on to the quarterfinal round of the Essex County Tournament Saturday afternoon.

Andrew Rowley scored 20 points for the Cougars (9-10), who outscored West Side, 20-9, in the second quarter to open a 34-22 lead.

Freshman point guard Jalen Robinson scored 16 points and junior guard Nigel Garcia had 14 points for Columbia, which held a 21-point lead after three quarters before West Side (8-9) unleashed a 36-point splurge in the final quarter to come within 10 points.

Chris Darcelin also finished in double figures with 11 points in the victory.
