MAPLEWOOD, NJ -- The Columbia boys swim team won a close victory in the opening round of the North 1, Group A state tournament, 87-84, over Morristown on Tuesday.

Nelson Paraison, Thaddeus Bernard, Aidan Dwyer and Declan Lynch of Columbia won the 200-meter freestyle relay with a time of 1:44.31. The Cougars also took the 400 freestyle relay, as Issac Ortiz, Caleb Baron, Nelson Paraison and Declan Lynch clocked in at 3:54.12.

In individual events, Lynch won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:36.22 and the 200 freestyle in 1:59.41, Bernard won the 100 fly in 1:02.10, and Ortiz claimed the 200 IM in 2:28.45.
