SOUTH ORANGE/MAPLEWOOD, NJ -- Three members of the Columbia football team were named to the 2019 All-Essex Group 4-5 Football Team as selected by coaches in the county.

Senior lineman Justin Anderson and senior defensive back Michael Caines of Columbia both were selected to the All-Essex Group 4-5 First Team Defense. Anderson was among the Cougars' leaders in tackles, forced fumbles and fumble recoveries. Caines led the Columbia defense in sacks, with nine, and, on offense, was the Cougars' leading receiver and one of their three top rushers.

Senior linebacker Abdoul Kone of Columbia was chosen on the Group 4-5 Second Team Defense. Kone led Columbia in tackles with 13 in a game against Montclair and helped spark the Cougars' defense with his presence as an edge rusher from the outside.

Columbia's defense posted two shutouts and allowed just one TD in two other games en route to a 5-5 record that represented the most victories for the school's football program under head coach Gary Mobley.
