SOMERS, N.Y. – Somers senior Erin Clark is a team captain and midfielder on the varsity field hockey squad. The Tuskers hold a 9-3-2 record as of Monday, Oct. 14.
How old were you when you started playing field hockey and how did you get started?
I started playing field hockey when I was at Somers Middle School in seventh grade. I had gone to a camp at Lakeland the previous summer and fell in love the sport.
What are the team’s goals for the rest of the season?
Our team’s goals are to continue to pass and transfer the ball across field during all of our games. Also, we want to continue to finish and execute our corners. We are looking forward to continuing our season into sectionals.
As a senior on the team, how much do you value being a leader?
I have taken my role as a leader seriously this season. Last year’s seniors were great role models so I knew what was expected of me. Communication is very important to create a cohesive team. I am so excited that I have been able to co-lead this amazing team.
What is your favorite team activity, pregame or postgame ritual that you share with your teammates?
Before all home games, we meet in the locker room, play music and get ready together. It is a very special bonding time for all of us. Also before our season, we went on a hike as team and have had many amazing team dinners.
Who has been your biggest role model over the years and what have you learned from them?
My older brother and sister. They have both taught me so much about working hard to achieve my goals and never giving up.
Tell us one thing about yourself that not a lot of people know?
I want to be special education teacher. My mom and sister are both teachers and I have grown up helping in my mom’s classroom. I have also volunteered with Special Olympics since sixth grade.
Will you continue to play field hockey in college? If yes, where are you going and why did you pick that school?
Yes, I am going to continue playing field hockey in college. I have not decided yet which school I am going to play at next year but I can’t wait for what’s to come.
Do you know what you want to study in college? If yes, what and why?
I want to study elementary education in college and get my Masters in special education.
Who is your favorite professional athlete and pro or college sports team?
I used to love Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks but now I watch the Golden State Warriors and my favorite player is Steph Curry. I love his work ethic and how hard he always plays.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
It would be the ability to fly so I could travel anywhere in the world.
If you could pick one place to visit on vacation that you’ve never been to, where would you go and why?
Somewhere I have never been and would love to travel to is Hawaii. I would love to go snorkeling and see all of the different fish and sea turtles. Also I would love to go biking around the islands.
What is your favorite food to eat before or after a game?
If I have time before games, my favorite thing to get is a smoothie because I don’t like to eat anything too heavy before games.
Best place to eat in Somers?
Bobo’s (Cafe) is my favorite place to eat in Somers. My friends and I go there after games and my favorite thing to order is a pitaya bowl!

Snapchat and Instagram.
For a young athlete growing up in Somers, what would you tell them about the experience of being part of the field hockey program and why should they go out for the team?
Through my experiences playing field hockey in Somers, I have made such amazing friends and connections with coaches that I wouldn’t trade for anything. Also, field hockey is such a rewarding sport when you put the time and effort in. I think everyone should play!
