SOMERS, N.Y. - Chase Bank is closing one of its branches and ATM locations in Somers.
In a letter to customers, the bank said it will be closing its offices at 265 Route 202—next to Taste Deli & Catering—and consolidating operations with its branch right across the road in the Somerstown Shopping Center on Thursday, Aug. 23.
Chase has been “opening new branches where it makes sense, consolidating where there is overlap and updating technology,” said spokesperson Trish Wexler.
It plans to open 400 new branches in 15 to 20 “new markets” including Washington, D.C., over the next five years, Wexler added.
Even though the trend toward online banking continues, customers still need brick-and-mortar banks, for instance, if they are running a small business or dealing with a banking matter that’s complicated and they need a human to help.
“This doesn’t necessarily mean customers need a branch on every corner,” Wexler said.
Chase told its customers that “everything will remain the same” with their accounts and that they can continue to use their existing debit/ATM cards, checks and credit cards.
To find other Chase locations, customers can use the bank’s Chase Mobile app or search online at chase.com/branch.
