SOMERS, N.Y. - Dozens of families came out to Muscoot Farm in Somers on Super Bowl Sunday to tap the maple trees and learn how to turn sap into delicious syrup.
A Westchester Parks worker explained how to identify maple trees and where to drill. He said generally the best time to drill is between mid-February and April. While Sunday's event came a little early, the warmer weather has pushed up the schedule. He then explained how to turn the sap into syrup through a boiling process. After giving a hands-on lesson, the farm provided families with take-home kits so they can tap the trees in their own backyards.
