SOMERS, N.Y. – Two linemen from the Somers High School football team have announced where they will continue their athletic and academic careers.
Charlie Grindrod will play at St. John Fisher College and Joe Griffith will play at Utica College. Their paths are likely to cross going forward, as both upstate Division III schools compete in the Empire 8 conference. The two teams are scheduled to face each other on Saturday, Oct. 10, at St. John Fisher in Rochester.
Griffith, a left tackle for the section semi-finalists, helped clear paths for top runners, Jack Kaiser and Charlie Balancia. He also played nose guard.
Grindrod, a fullback, also contributed to Somers’ strong rushing attack, but made most of his highlights on the defensive side of the ball. A nose guard, Grindrod often blew up plays in the backfield and pressured the opposing team’s quarterback into making mistakes.
