‘Did You Hear What He Said?’

While in his teenage years, Paul registered quite a few times for the Yorktown Rotary’s Hole-in-One contest.

He looked forward to this fundraising event each summer, an event where he could test his progress/prowess as a golfer-in-training. One year in particular, Paul’s shot was close enough to qualify him for a prize: a men’s travel toiletry kit (not so useful for a teen, ...

Blue Genes

My wife got tickets to the Blue Man Group, which we had never seen and sounded like a fun and farcical evening. Beforehand, we ate at a restaurant next door to the theater; I think the place is owned by Robert De Niro. I mentioned it to my wife and she says that every time we go to a restaurant I say that I think it’s owned by Robert De Niro.

The ‘Seasoned Citizen’

I am a “Seasoned Citizen.” Not a Senior Citizen—that, to me, is diminishing; not an Octogenarian—that’s something I cannot accept, because it sneaked up on me when I wasn’t looking.

This gave me an idea. I started confiscating my kids’ electronics ...

Pulling You Over… or Putting One Over on You?

The other day on the Taconic Parkway, I noticed an SUV being pulled over by an unmarked police car with dashboard lights flashing. In my rear-view mirror, I could see a uniformed officer exit his vehicle, also an SUV.

Other than thinking it had been a while since I last spotted an unmarked police car pulling someone over, I thought nothing of the sighting. Until the next day.

That’s ...

The ‘Sniffling, Sneezing, Coughing, but I’m Not Really Sick’ Cold

When I woke up, I felt fine. However, by noon, one side of my nose was stuffed up. And by dinner time, I had a full blown, eye-watering, nose-dripping, knock-the-dog-over-with-my-sneezes head cold.

“Maybe it’s allergies,” said my husband as I let out another sonic boom of a sneeze.

“I’ve never had allergies before,” I replied

“There’s ...
