SOMERS, N.Y.-The league title slipped through the hands of Somers’ boys basketball team. Walter Panas, with its win over John Jay-Cross River, finished 7-1 in league play to secure the championship.

Somers defeated host Lakeland, 69-57, in its final league game, but it wasn’t enough as the Tuskers finished league play 6-2.

“It was very tough that we came up short of the league title,” senior captain Lorenzo Bicknese acknowledged. “Honestly, that was our biggest goal and to have Gio (Tradito) go down (with an injury) and have so many games in a short span of time was just unfortunate. We are moving past that though and are focused on playoffs and we have learned how to play without Gio a little better. The first couple of games we had to get used to it."
