YONKERS, N.Y.— Somers competed at the third annual Westchester County Wrestling Championships on Jan. 21 at Yonkers High School and had two of its grapplers place.

Senior Graham Roediger finished fourth at 138 pounds. Roediger reached the semifinals with a 38-second pin of Westlake’s Brian Eng in the quarterfinals.

He then fell to Fox Lane’s Ben Antin by a 7-4 decision in the semis and lost to John Jay-Cross River’s Ray Cotto by a 6-0 decision in the third-place match.

Senior Billy DiBenedetto placed sixth at 126 pounds.

Somers cruised past host Rye, 62-16, in dual-meet action on Thursday, Jan. 19.

Eric Giancaspro (126, major decision), DiBenedetto (132, pin), Roediger (138, pin), Nick Fiore (145, pin), Nick Davison (152, injury default), Matt Kelly (160, major decision) and Anderson Fiorella (182, pin) all picked up wins.

Matt Russo (99), Jon Barakat (113), Tristan Manzano (120) and Jimmy Hogan (195) won by forfeit.

The Tuskers fell to visiting Tappan Zee 51-25 on their senior day on Jan. 17.

Russo (99, decision), Roediger (138, pin), Davison (152, pin), Kelly (160, pin) and Sean Freebern (220, major decision) picked up wins.

Somers will compete in the Peter Caruso Memorial Tournament at Mahopac High School on Saturday, Jan. 28 with wrestling action starting at 8:30 a.m.
