SOMERS, N.Y.— Somers’ baseball team dropped three contests with two of the setbacks coming against league rival John Jay-Cross River and one against Carmel last week.
The Tuskers, however, were able to bounce back with a 21-0 drubbing of Roosevelt on May 15.
Logan Carriero starred on the hill and at the plate. He tossed two innings of scoreless relief, allowing zero hits to go along with five strikeouts. The sophomore was also 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Nick Fiore went 2 for 3 with two runs scored in the rout.
In a home-and-home series with John Jay, the Indians cruised past visiting Somers 14-3 on May 10.
Matt Pires was electric at the plate, going 3 for 3 with two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored. Nick Keating added an RBI double.
Two days later the Indians edged host Somers 4-1 with Pires going 1 for 2 with a run scored.
In a 7-2 loss to visiting Carmel on May 9, Keating went 2 for 3 with a double, RBI and a run scored.
Somers (6-13) closed out the regular season against Hendrick Hudson on May 16 and will return to the Section 1 Class A playoffs this year after failing to qualify last season.
