SOMERS, N.Y.— Somers High School played host to the first youth wrestling tournament in Somers in many years on Feb. 26. The Somers youth wrestling team decided to host the tournament after the great success of their Somers youth scrimmage last year.

The team’s head coach is Morgan Carey, a high school state champion. Carey, along with assistant coach Dr. Brett Lassen and coach Mike Callan, have worked tirelessly with the Somers youth wrestling team, drilling and practicing since just after Thanksgiving. The youth wrestling team works together with the Somers varsity wrestling team under the leadership of head coach Ron DiSanto, assistant coach Chris Kumrow and coach Chris Gross. The high school coaches and team helped tremendously to make it a great day.

The Somers youth tournament had over 130 registered participants from all across Westchester, Putnam and Rockland Counties and some from Connecticut. All age groups from kindergarten through eighth grade were represented. Wrestlers competed for gold, silver and bronze medals. The ever growing Somers youth wrestling program had most of its team medal at the tournament.
