SOMERS, N.Y.— Somers girls tennis coach Frank Catania has been on medical leave since early in the season but it hasn’t deterred the girls from battling on the courts.

The Tuskers, who finished the regular season with a 6-7 record, had former JV coach Stacey Kammerer take over as their head coach with Catania’s absence.

In a 6-0 win over visiting Walter Panas on the Tuskers’ senior day Oct. 5, Dorothy Silverman (6-1, 6-1) and Mia Balkaran (6-0, 7-5) won their singles matches. In doubles, Yazmeen Salha and Mackenzie Berner (6-0, 6-0); Jaeyon Yao and Rose Dettwyler (6-2, 6-3); Margaret Eskridge and Amara Vargas (6-0, 6-0); and Kylie Matschke and Katie McCartin (6-0, 6-0) all swept their matches.
