SOMERS, N.Y. – Somers girls soccer got their season off to a 2-0 start last week. The Tuskers opened with a 3-0 win over host Harrison on Sept. 4.

The Tuskers, who scored all three of their goals in the second half, received goals from Dahlia Pepe, Ella Kittredge, and Megan Dineen. Karlene Kurtz, Meghan Blanch and Jessica Rodriguez notched assists.

Rachel Ross kept a clean sheet in net with five saves.

Somers 8, Gorton 0

The Tuskers cruised past visiting Gorton 8-0 on Sept. 6 in their home opener. Somers jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead.

Noelle DeMarinis (1A) and Ilaria Adornetto tallied two goals each. Alexa Vanga, Rodriguez (1A), Victoria Righetti (1A) and Ella Kittredge scored a goal apiece. Pepe, Dineen and Blanch added assists.

Ross had a slow day in net as Gorton wasn’t able to muster one shot on goal against a stout Tusker defense.

Volleyball (3-2)

Somers 3, Croton-Harmon 1

Somers’ volleyball squad has had a busy start to the season and opened with a 3-1 road win over Croton-Harmon on Aug. 30.

Pooja Rao (12 kills), Sabrina Somoza (6 digs), Jen Acocella (6 digs) and Delaney Killeen (5 saves) paced the team.

Tappan Zee 3, Somers 0

The Tuskers were on the road again and fell to Tappan Zee in straight sets on Sept. 3: 19-25, 15-25, 19-25.

Rao (12 kills), Julia Vitale (15 assists), Somoza (7 digs) and Angelina Realbuto (3 aces) were the key contributors.

Somers 3, Eastchester 0

In its home opener, Somers swept Eastchester on Sept. 5: 27-25, 25-15, 25-10.

Vitale (27 assists) and Rao (13 kills, 5 blocks) had impressive games. Somoza (8 digs) and Megan Spencer (6 aces) also contributed.

Byram Hills 3, Somers 0

Somers fell in straight sets to host Byram Hills the next afternoon: 19-25, 19-25, 18-25.

Rao (10 kills), Spencer (4 aces) and Vitale (21 assists) led the way.

Somers 3, Harrison 0

In its fourth road game in its first five games, Somers (3-2) swept Harrison in straight sets: 25-14, 25-16, 25-13.

Rao (7 kills), Vitale (22 assists), Killeen (2 aces), Spencer (2 aces) and Somoza (13 digs) sparked Somers.
