SOMERS, N.Y. – Several area students were given the Somers Democratic Committee’s Civic Award at the club’s award dinner on Wednesday, June 14.
Winning students were selected from Somers High School, North Salem High School, Kennedy Catholic High School, Somers Middle School and Somers Intermediate School. They were recommended by the social studies department in each school. The non-partisan award recognizes a student’s excellence and accomplishments in the following areas:
- Service to the community;
- Awareness of current events and issues; and
- Appreciation of their role in today’s society.
Democratic Committee Chair Christine Robbins said the emphasis in selecting a recipient is on the civic portion of the award.
“It is our intent for this to recognize civic awareness and involvement rather than be another in a series of academically oriented awards,” Robbins said.
The committee presented a certificate and a monetary award to each of the recipients.
