Townsend Swims to States

WEST NYACK, N.Y.— Somers senior Rachel Townsend, a member of the Croton-Harmon/Hendrick Hudson/Somers girls swim team, clocked a time of 54.19 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle to qualify for the state tournament last week at Felix Festa Middle School.

Townsend also was eighth in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 25.17 seconds. The senior joined Raina Thomas, Carolyn Kochek and Jennifer Gougelman on the 200-yard medley relay, placing fifth to qualify for the New York State tourmament in 1:51.70.

Kochek was also sixth in the 100 butterfly while Gougelman took seventh in the 500-yard freestyle.

Townsend and the relay team will compete at states Nov. 17-18 at Ithaca College.
