95th Annual Yorktown Grange Fair

A Yorktown Grange Fair Association Event
Celebrating 95 years of Family, Fun and Agriculture

The Yorktown Grange Fair is back and celebrating 95 years of solid family fun and community togetherness!

This year, the Grange Fair is focusing on the complementary relationship between the community and local agriculture with the theme, “Back to the Garden”, a subtle nod to 1969 Woodstock Music Festival. From September 6 to 8, the Grange Fairgrounds will be bursting with local farm animals, contests, carnival fare, and more.

The theme "Back to the Garden" is a perfect way to acknowledge the contributions that local families make to our community and to the larger environment. From the smallest backyard garden to the largest farm, every vegetable grown and animal raised is a benefit to our way of life. We couldn’t think of a better way to thank everyone than to make it our 2019 Yorktown Grange Fair theme.

The singin’ MD!

These past few weeks I’ve had a follow-up visits with my physicians watching over me and my various health issues.

I did  report to you that my red blood count is within the normal range which was good news because it meant there wouldn’t be a phlebotomy—I really don’t like giving away my blood!

The cardiologist shared with me that everything was on target; he ...

Rockin’ in the Free World

You can probably tell by my hair, but I’ve been in a band since I was 12. At the age of 12 you’re not necessarily in the game to make a hit with the ladies, excepting your Mom and Grandma, but it’s good to have a head-start for when you reach puberty. I wanted to play the drums, because I have four sisters and you’re not allowed to hit a girl, and it helps to hit something ...

The Mills of the Gods

Pyewacket and Stanley, my feline family, join our editor’s cat, Chief, in cheering the New York law banning cat de-clawing.

We human beings feel we have the right to manipulate animals to suit our tastes.  I find it appalling!  Docking dogs’ tails, caging them when we’re not home, styling their fur to suit us and not them.  Thank goodness old fashioned ...

Happy 50th, Woodstock Alumni… We Are Golden

On Aug. 15, 1969, I finished the Friday shift at my summer job at Times Square Stores (TSS) in Hempstead, Long Island, picked up a couple of friends in my dad’s Plymouth, and off we went to the Catskills for (as the publicity poster proclaimed) “An Aquarian Exposition in White Lake, N.Y.,” better known simply as “Woodstock.”

In the past half-century, it has ...
