95th Annual Yorktown Grange Fair

A Yorktown Grange Fair Association Event
Celebrating 95 years of Family, Fun and Agriculture

The Yorktown Grange Fair is back and celebrating 95 years of solid family fun and community togetherness!

This year, the Grange Fair is focusing on the complementary relationship between the community and local agriculture with the theme, “Back to the Garden”, a subtle nod to 1969 Woodstock Music Festival. From September 6 to 8, the Grange Fairgrounds will be bursting with local farm animals, contests, carnival fare, and more.

The theme "Back to the Garden" is a perfect way to acknowledge the contributions that local families make to our community and to the larger environment. From the smallest backyard garden to the largest farm, every vegetable grown and animal raised is a benefit to our way of life. We couldn’t think of a better way to thank everyone than to make it our 2019 Yorktown Grange Fair theme.

That’s a 10-4, Satin Doll!

Remember the CB radio craze back in the 70s and early 80s?  This was before cell phones and the like took center stage.  Bud and I each had a CB radio in our cars.  His “handle” was Diamond Jim and mine was Satin Doll.  We joined a CB club and made new friends with Papa Bear, Lady Red, the Poet, Mud Turtle, Shoestring, Dodge Boy, Mopar Kid, Golden Bear.

Life as we know it

You may have heard that some knucklehead on the internet posted an invitation for other knuckleheads on the internet to “storm Area 51” because “they can’t stop all of us!” This post is basically a classified ad, since Area 51 is classified as a highly classified area owned by the Air Force, presumably used to test experimental aircraft and weapons. It’s nearby ...

Where, Oh, Where, Is Dr. Kildare?

My grandson, Chris, his wife Silvia, and their baby daughter Vik, were visiting the other day when my podiatrist, Dr. Harry Prywes, came to call.  Dr. Prywes has a practice in Westchester but makes house calls as well.  This opened up a whole discussion between Chris and myself about why family doctors stopped making house calls and how HMOs became prevalent.

There used to be a ...

In the past half-century, it has ...
