Event Type: Adult Program
Date: 3/10/2017, 3/17/2017, 3/24/2017, 3/31/2017
Start Time: 12:30 PM
End Time: 2:30 PM

Description:

This four day workshop will focus on the traditional elements of pen & ink and its combination with wash. Black India and other waterproof inks are permanent in nature. This, together with the low cost and ease of reproduction, continue to make it a popular medium for commercial illustrations and architectural renderings.
Because the pen is essentially a linear tool, it can only delineate small areas that must be carefully planned. However, when combined with wash (diluted ink) or watercolor, it becomes tinted or painted drawing, capable of covering larger areas. Hatching, cross-hatching, stippling and wash will all be presented so that students may develop a personal style.

‘Tea Is Now Served’

Author’s Note: Yesterday afternoon, a friend and I had a delightful “tea date” at Florrie Kaye’s Tea Room. On the way home, my thoughts wandered to the very first tea party I gave at my home; the beginning of many delicious and lovely tea parties with special friends. Today is rainy and gloomy, perfect for retelling “Tea is now served.”

In the late ...

Kicking and Screaming

Is there any better idea than playing a family-friendly game of kickball on a beautiful, sunny Fourth of July afternoon? What I mean to say is that ANYTHING is a better idea than playing a family-friendly game of kickball on a beautiful, sunny Fourth of July afternoon. That is, if you are over the age of 50 and have any pride at all.

Our friends, Pete and Jenn, had a lovely neighborhood ...

Love Letter

This is a love letter. Having never written a love letter to a newspaper before, I ask you to please bear with me.

I’ve always believed that the only constant in life is change and sometimes fortune cookies hit the nail on the head. My last one read, “Relish transitions in your life... they will happen regardless!”

I’ve had tremendous transitions in the last 16 ...

What to do with the Kids This Summer

Dear Dr. Linda,

Help! Summer isn’t even halfway over and I can’t wait for school to start. Over the past years, you’ve listed activities to do with kids, but my kids were little so I didn’t pay close attention. Now I need some ideas to do with my 8-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son that won’t cost a lot of money. They should have gone to camp, which is what ...

A Community of Charities

Chambers of commerce like those in Yorktown, Somers, Mahopac-Carmel and elsewhere have a vital purpose in supporting and promoting a healthy, growing economy composed of local businesses that are predicated on the profit motive.

At the same time, points out Deb Milone, executive director of the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce, “Our region has a large nonprofit business ...

Walk This Way

My husband and I had been circling the narrow cobblestone streets of a small village in Spain for 15 minutes looking for parking, with no success. Every spot was either “no parking” or “no standing” or some other restriction we couldn’t make out because the signs were in Spanish and the only two words we knew in Spanish were parking and standing.

Finally, we ...
