Rotary Club of Cortlandt Manor's Fifth Annual Touch A Truck

Sunday, September 15th the Rotary Club of Cortlandt Manor will host the “Fifth Annual Westchester Putnam Touch A Truck” from 10 am to 3 pm. It will be located at 155 Highland Avenue where the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society holds their Annual Italian Feast each July.

Westchester Putnam Touch A Truck will provide a unique opportunity for children of all ages to explore and learn about all types of vehicles - including fire, law enforcement, military, construction, farming, utility, delivery, emergency, community, truck dealers and more.

The children will be able to explore, touch, climb, sit in the driver’s seat, pose for photos and ask questions to the professionals there with their vehicles. The professionals will provide a safe environment to learn about the equipment while they explain the use for each vehicle on display. Some may have handouts for the children or other things they can take home with them.

There will also be a FREE face painting for the children. Coffee, Munchkins, Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, and French Fries and ice cream will be available for sale.

A perfect inexpensive local family event. Admission is only $5 per person at the gate, children under two years of age attend free.

Proceeds will go to support the local community projects which Cortlandt Manor Rotary participates in serving our community all year round.

Projects include school book distributions, Veteran healing garden, and WWII Vets Memorial upkeep, Senior citizen events, Town of Cortlandt Free Concert and Movie Series, End Polio Now among a few. You’ll be sorry!

Dad passed away many years ago. I’ve written quite a few columns about him: his building the grand picnic table in the basement that wouldn’t fit through the basement door to the back yard; sanding the bathroom door at the top rather than the bottom to fit over the new bathroom rug. Big day for small business

It feels good to live in a town where people aren’t afraid to come out and get together for an afternoon of self-celebration. Last Saturday the Somers Chamber of Commerce organized such an event and closed car traffic to the Towne Centre so that we could meet some of the people behind the small businesses that make each town unique and give a community its character.

I was escorted by my ...

He grows up wondering what kind of person he might have become had his mother survived beyond his elementary school years.

He grows up not remembering exactly what he called her—mom? mommy?

He grows up not remembering other details of his life prior to his mother’s sudden departure at ...

Do Negative Halftime Speeches Work?

September 12, 2019

Inspirational locker room speeches are a hallmark of sports movies.

Who can forget Herb Brooks in “Miracle” trying to rally the U.S. hockey team before their legendary upset over the unbeatable Soviets in the 1980 Olympic Games?

“Great moments are born from great opportunity. And that's what you have here tonight, boys. That's what you've earned here tonight.
