Yorktown Heights, N.Y. - American Family Care (AFC) of Yorktown, in the BJ’s Plaza, will begin offering COVID-19 Antibody Testing to the general public beginning today, Monday April 27.

The COVID-19 Antibody Test is a blood test that will detect a past infection with coronavirus.

“We are proud to be the first Urgent Care in the area to offer this test,” said Medical Director Rajesh Gupta, MD. “If you believe that you have had COVID-19, no longer have symptoms and would like to be tested, please call us to set up an appointment.”

According to the CDC, "The test looks for the presence of antibodies, which are specific proteins made in response to infections. Antibodies can be found in the blood and in other tissues of those who are tested after infection. The antibodies detected by this test indicate that a person had an immune response to SARS-CoV-2, whether symptoms developed from infection or the infection was asymptomatic. Antibody test results are important in detecting infections with few or no symptoms.”

"It has been indicated by the FDA that antibody testing has the potential to identify people who have been exposed to COVID-19 and who have developed an immune response," said Kellie Slater, Outreach Director for AFC Urgent Care Yorktown. "In addition, the FDA has indicated that antibody testing can help identify those who may be able to donate plasma, which could provide a treatment for those who are seriously ill from this virus."

Appointments for antibody testing should be scheduled ahead of time by calling 914-930-5550.

Test collection is available only to patients who are asymptomatic; have been asymptomatic for at least 10 days; lack a fever and are wearing a face mask.  If you believe you currently have COVID-19 and wish to be tested for the virus, which is a separate test, please call 914-930-5550.

AFC Urgent Care’s current hours of operation are 9 a.m.-5 p.m., 7 days a week.
