SOMERS, N.Y. – Charlie Balancia is a senior at Somers High School. He is varsity captain for both football and lacrosse. As a running back/safety in football, he was awarded All-Conference in 2018.
When and how did you first get started in football?
I started playing flag football in second grade and I’ve loved the game since.
What do you enjoy most about playing for Somers?
The best thing about playing for Somers football is our superior coaching staff. They all put in an insane amount of time to get us better at football and set us up for the real world.
What’s your favorite memory playing football?
My favorite football memory is coming back from a 14-point deficit and beating Yorktown 35-21 at their homecoming last year.
Who inspires you the most?
My dad inspires me the most because he has always believed in me no matter what.
What are your plans after high school?
After high school I plan to go to college and study business.
How do you get motivated for a game?
I’m ready to run through a wall after Coach DeMatteo’s pre-game speeches. Along with that, I get myself motivated by sitting alone with my headphones on and listening to music in the locker room.
Favorite place to eat locally?
Obviously, my mom’s home-cooked meals beat everything, but my second favorite place is Somers Super Deli.
What’s your favorite place to visit on vacation?
My favorite place to go on vacation is Florida because I love the heat and it’s very relaxing.
What’s something about yourself people would be surprised to learn?
I played pool basketball with Kevin Durant in the Bahamas.
What’s the go-to app on your phone?
My boys and I play Tap Sports Baseball ’19 all the time.
What’s your favorite TV show to binge?
Even though I hopped on the bandwagon this year, I can’t stop watching “Game of Thrones.”
