BRONX, N.Y. - In a rematch of last year’s intersectional volleyball championship, Kennedy Catholic flipped the script on Mary Louis Academy, winning a five-set thriller at Cardinal Spellman High School on Wednesday, Nov. 6 (25-20, 20-25, 25-20, 24-26, 25-22).

It was the first time all season that the Gaels, who improved to 22-0, played more than three sets in a match.

Kennedy’s Julia Costa led the attack with 41 assists and 6 aces. Madison Troetti, Anna Cascapera and Grace Tompkins contributed with 9 kills each. Anna Cascapera had 5 blocks.

“We were ready, we were willing, and we were able to move the ball around like we have so many times before. It was an awesome match to see,” said Coach Tony Santora “My girls remembered [Mary Louis] and wanted redemption for last year and they got it. Good for them.

“Tonight,” Santora added, “we were treated to volleyball the way should be played.”

On Saturday, Kennedy Catholic will travel to Jamaica, Queens, for the Catholic School State Tournament.
