9/11 Remembrance Ceremonies To Take Place Throughout Somerset County

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ – On Friday, communities across Somerset County will hold memorial services honoring those who lost their lives in the September 11, 2011 terrorist attacks. The following ceremonies, according to the Somerset County website, honoring those killed 14 years ago are planned and open to the public:

Somerset County

The Somerset County ceremony will take place at 8:46 a.m. in front of the county’s 9/11 Memorial, located at the corner of Main and Bridge streets in Somerville. The ceremony will begin with a brief tolling of the bell at the top of the nearby historic courthouse. The Freeholders will then read the names of the 39 county residents killed and a wreath will be placed in front of the memorial.

Green Brook

At 6:30 p.m., Green Brook will hold a ceremony with guest speakers and community groups. The ceremony will take place the Top of the World Park 9/11 Memorial, 100 Top of the World Way.

North Plainfield

North Plainfield Police, Fire, EMS and Mayor Michael Giordano, Jr. will take part in the borough’s annual 9/11 Silent Procession. The procession will start at Landmark Pharmacy and head south on Somerset Street, concluding in front of the fire bell at the corner of Somerset and Lincoln Place where a brief ceremony will take place. Both Police Chief William Parenti and Fire Chief Bill Eaton will be on hand; Eaton will say a few words and ring the bell at 8:46 a.m. (in honor of the time the first plane hit the North Tower). There will also be a moment of silence. Somerset Street will be closed briefly.

Peapack & Gladstone

Peapack & Gladstone will hold a service at the 9/11 Memorial in Liberty Park, located at Main Street and Park Avenue, at 8:45 a.m. Wreaths will be placed in memory of those who lost their lives. 


Warren will hold at memorial service at 9 a.m. at the municipal complex flagpole, located at 46 Mountain Boulevard.


A memorial service will take place at 5:30 p.m. on the Village Green, located across from Borough Hall on the Watchung Circle. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the all purpose room at Valley View School on Valley View Road.
