BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Somerset County Department of Health on Monday reported a total of 4,728 cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus, an increase of eight cases in the county overnight.

The New Jersey Department of Health Sunday reported a total of 185,031 confirmed cases of the coronavirus since the pandemic began its spread in the state 161 days ago, an increase of 258 since Sunday.

Here is the latest breakdown of confirmed cases by town: Bedminster, 48; Bernardsville, 75; Bernards Township, 293. None of these three communities had any additional reported cases since Sunday.

According to the NJDOH, there were 545 probable coronavirus cases in the state's 71 hospitals as of Sunday, a drop of 280 patients in just a five-day period. At the virus' peak in April, there were more than 8,000 patients hospitalized statewide with COVID-19. There were 83 coronavirus patients in intensive care units in New Jersey as of Sunday. During its April peak, there were 2,080 ICU patients with COVID-19.

The NJDOH also reported on Monday that the rate of transmission in New Jersey had fallen back below 1.00, to 0.98.
