Baseball: Bernards Upends Somerville, 9-1

BERNARDSVILLE, NJ - The Bernards baseball team scored four runs in the first inning and then five more in the third to come away with a 9-1 victory over Somerville on Thursday.

Robbie Holmes pitched a complete-game five-hitter with one walk and seven strikeouts for the Mountaineers (8-3). He surrendered the run in the first inning and then shut the Pioneers (6-4) down the rest of the way.

Matt Oliver drove in six runs with a grand slam home run in the first inning and a double in the third. Timmy Lallis stroked two doubles and scored two runs for Bernards, and Daniel Ball was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
