BERNARDSVILLE, NJ - The Bernards baseball team's opening game in the state tournament was postponed Monday and rescheduled for Tuesday.

Fifth-seeded Bernards (13-9) will host 12th-seeded North Plainfield (12-6) in the first round of the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 2 tournament at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The Mountaineers have been led offensively by junior shortstop Phil Mahlik, senior outfielder Timmy Lallis, junior first baseman Robbie Holmes, junior outfielder Matt Oliver and junior infielder Jack Evleth. Daniel Ball, Evleth and Holmes have all turned in strong efforts on the pitching mound, too.

North Plainfield's top pitcher, Bruce Weyand (6-1), is one of the better pitchers in Somerset County and is likely to get the call against the Mountaineers.
