BERNARDSVILLE, NJ -- The Bernards boys soccer team has been seeded second in the Section 2, Group 2 state tournament that begins next week.

The Mountaineers (14-1) will open at home against 15th-seeded North Star Academy on Tuesday, Oct. 29. If Bernards advances with a victory, the next game would be at home on Friday, Nov. 1 against either No. 7 Madison or No. 10 Rutherford.

Before any of this takes place, the Mountaineers have another title to vie for. They are still alive in the Somerset County Tournament, and will be playing Gill-St. Bernard's in Gladstone Wednesday in the semifinal round. The winner of that game would play either Pingry or Hillsborough in the finals Saturday at the Torpey Complex in Bridgewater. Bernards is the fourth seed and Gill the top seed in the county tournament.

Bernards reached the SCT semifinals with a 4-0 victory over Bridgewater-Raritan in the quarterfinals over the weekend. Gilberto Ferreira, Alejandro Woelper, J.J. Zaun and Nico Botti each scored a goal in the victory over BRHS. Elliot Dietrich made 13 saves in the victory.
