BERNARDSVILLE NJ - The Mountaineers defense was hitting on all cylinders today at Olcott field, holding powerhouse Mahwah to only three goals in an 11-3 victory in the North Jersey Group 2 Sectional Champsionship game.  The sectional champsionship was the first for a Bernards program that has produced one of the elite girls lacrosse teams in the state.

Bernards, ranked nineteenth in the state, came into the game on a hot streak, having won four straight games and 10 of their last eleven.  The Mountaineer defense smothered Mahwah, allowing the visitors only one goal in a tense first half.  Bernards led 3-1 at the break.

The game continued to be close for the first twelve minutes of the second half.  At the 12:45 mark, Mahwah scored to cut the Bernards lad to a single goal at 4-3.  That was as close as Mahwah would get.
