Bernards Girls Lacrosse Team Falls to Bridgewater-Raritan in T of C

MIDDLETOWN, NJ - The Bernards girls lacrosse team's championship season came to an end at the hands and sticks of Somerset County rival Bridgewater-Raritan.

The Panthers defeated Bernards, the state Group 2 champion, 17-5, in the opening round of the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions on Wednesday. It was Bridgewater's third victory over the Mountaineers this season. Bernards finished the season 20-4, winning 20 of its 21 matches against all opponents other than Bridgewater-Raritan.

Bridgewater-Raritan blitzed Bernards during a 13-0 first half before the Mountaineers regained some of their bearings in the second half.

Paige Petty scored two goals for Bernards. Annie Thomas finished with one goal and one assist in the loss, with Laurel McHale and Hanna Christian also scoring goals in the loss. Jenna McHale contributed an assist for the Mountaineers.

Bernards won the Group 2 state title with a victory Saturday against Haddonfield.
