BERNARDSVILLE NJ - Former Somerset County Sheriff's Officer Timothy Richard of Dunellen has become Bernardsville's newest police officer, according to Chief Kevin Valentine. With the appointment of Richard, the Bernardsville Police Department remains fully staffed with 19 sworn police officers.

Officer Richard comes to the department with a degree in Criminal Justice from Kean University. In addition to his degree, Richard completed the Monmouth County Police Academy in 2015. He began his career in law enforcement as a Sheriff's Officer in the Somerset County Sheriff's Office. A trained Emergency Medical Technician, Richard has worked at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Somerset as an EMT.

“Officer Richard is a good fit for our community,” Valentine said. "This appointment allows us to keep pace with the growing demand for police services and will enhance our capabilities to provide emergency medical assistance when called upon.”

Richard began working with the department on Dec. 19. He took the ceremonial oath of office at the Jan. 9, 2017 borough council meeting. The new officer was appointed at an annual starting annual salary of $40,495.
