Both Bernards Basketball Teams Head to Jersey City for State Tournament Action


SOMERSET HILLS, NJ - Bernards High will send both its girls basketball team and its boys basketball team to Jersey City to face Lincoln High School in the first round of the NJSIAA Central, Group II sectional championship tournament.

The Mountaineers boys basketball team is riding high with a 18-5 record.  They are the eleven seed in the section, and will take their balanced attack to face the six seed Lincoln Lions.  The Lions have played to a 15-10 record, and are coming off of a defeat at the hands of Hudson Catholic High School in the Hudson County Tournament.  The boys game will begin at 7:00 PM.

Top scorer Caroline Baratta will lead the Mounties' girls team into Jersey City.  The senior enters the tournament with 1,364 career points, and sport a 17.8 points per game scoring average.  At 14-11, Bernards is the thirteen seed in the section.  Lincoln is the fourth seed, with a season record of 16-5.  Tip-off time for the girls game is 5:00 PM.

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Insurance fraud charges against Franklin Township Clerk Ann Marie McCarthy have been dropped, according to officials.
