BEDMINSTER NJ – Overcoming difficult weather conditions and injury, Cherry Valley Country Club Director of Golf Allan Bowman and amateur partner Thomas Yarson carded 8 birdies on their way to victory in the National Car Rental NJPGA Pro-Scratch tournament at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
Bowman has been on the mend since fracturing his ankle 9 months ago in a freak accident. “I’m far from one hundred percent, but in an odd way the injury has forced me to focus more. And focus has become a central part of my game,” says Bowman. He attributes improvement in his game to his work with a sports psychologist. “While I’m not there yet from a physical standpoint I have to thank Dr. Nick Molinaro for getting me straight with the mental part of my game.”
Yarson’s 3 birdies were bested by Bowman’s 5 birdies in the best ball competition. “I’ve known Thomas since he was a youngster. I gave him lessons and am proud to see him progress through juniors and into an accomplished college player at Rider University. In addition, Thomas is also a fine young man and a wonderful partner,” said Bowman. Yarson graduated from Rider in 2016 following a stellar Division I golf career and was club champion at Cherry Valley Country Club in 2015 and 2016.
The turning point may have been a Bowman chip in for birdie on the seventeenth hole. “Thomas chipped in on 2 to go along with mine on 17,” said Bowman. “You need a couple of breaks sometimes and this was our day.”
Finishing in a tie for second one stroke back was the team of pro Grant Sturgeon and Dan Macdonald from Arcola Country Club and Keith Grassing and Mike O’Connell from Essex Golf Range.
