Boys Swimming: Undefeated Bernards Dominates Madison


BERNARDSVILLE NJ - The Bernards High School boys swimming team, undefeated in thirteen meets,  overwhelmed fourth seed, Madison by a score of 112-58 in the NJSIAA Group II, Section C semi-finals held on Monday at the Somerset Hills YMCA.  The Mountaineers advance to the sectional final against fourth seed, Caldwell High School.

According to the summary published by Bernards High School Coach Ed Tsuzuki on the team's website, Bernards swimmers finished first and second, or first and third in every event except the backstroke and the breaststroke.  The team capped off the victory by swimming 3:23.33 in the 400 meter free relay, a time good enough to qualify the team for the prestigious NJSIAA Meet of Champions.   Alex Kiel, Joe Kiel, Ryan Van Dijk and Matt Voight make up the relay team.  

Scoring two individual wins were Matt Voigt, swimming in the 200 meter and 500 meter freestyle, and Mike Doerr, competing in the 50 meter and 100 meter freestyle.  Ryan Van Dijk and Joe Kiel each won one individual event.  

The Mountaineers will swim again on Thursday, February 16 at 5:30 in the NJSIAA Group II, Section C finals at the Raritan Bay Area YMCA, located at  357 New Brunswick Ave, Perth Amboy.

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Insurance fraud charges against Franklin Township Clerk Ann Marie McCarthy have been dropped, according to officials.
