Busy Historical Society of the Somerset Hills to Hold Annual Kickoff Social Thurs., Feb. 16, for Public and Members

BERNARDS TWP., NJ  - Current and potential new members, as well as visitors from the public, are invited to the annual members meeting & social gathering for The Historical Society of the Somerset Hills, set to be held on Thursday, Feb. 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brick Academy, the society's headquarters, at 15 W. Oak St., Basking Ridge.

 "We welcome our new and current members and guests to attend," said Sue Zibelli, the 2017 Chairman.  "Join us as we welcome in the new year for the members and guests to see our museum, view the exhibits,  and meet the THSSH trustees."

Light refreshments and beverages will be served for all to enjoy a members-only, private tour and exhibit discussion presented by the Trustees. Those who wish to attend are asked to please RSVP to Brooks Betz, The Historical Society of the Somerset Hills Program Chair by either email, or phone at (908) 221-1770.

The busy historical society, which has been involved this year in plans to memorialize the Basking Ridge white oak tree in the town's center, is also accepting applications for new members.

This year, THSSH set up a Go Fund Me to help assist The Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church in the cost of memorializing and safely removing the town's 600-year-old oak tree, which succumbed this year. The historical society's webpage contains extensive information, including multimedia links, regarding the centuries-old oak tree.

THSSH membership applications are available online. The historical society also hosts regular events at the Brick Academy, such as an open house with historic displays held during each May's Charter Day celebration in Bernards Township.

The Historical Society of The Somerset Hills (THSSH) preserves and promotes the history of the Somerset Hills including Bedminster, Bernards Township, Bernardsville, Peapack & Gladstone and is the only historical society in the region. Founded in 1928 as the Basking Ridge Historical Society, THSSH is a 501-C-3 non-profit organization headquartered at the Brick Academy in the Basking Ridge section of Bernards Township. THSSH is supported through the organization's active member base, volunteers, and trustees.

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Insurance fraud charges against Franklin Township Clerk Ann Marie McCarthy have been dropped, according to officials.
