BERNARDSVILLE NJ - Congressman Leonard Lance joined a full house in at the Claremont Tavern in Bernardsville last night to watch the Fox News/Google Republican Presidential Debate. The televised debate was the final debate before next week's Iowa Caucuses.
The Bernardsville Republican Winter Social was organized by Bernardsville Republican Chair A.Q. "Skip" Orza and the Bernardsville Republican Municipal Committee. The event attracted elected officials from around the Somerset Hills area. Senator Tony Bucco and Assemblyman Anthony Bucco, who represent Bernardsville in the state legislature attended the event, as did current and former elected officials from Bernardsville, Peapack-Gladstone, Bound Brook and Bernards Township. Bernardvsille's favorite son, Freeholder Peter Palmer mingled with the party goers.
The debate was aired on multiple television screens in the upstairs tavern room. Before the debate began, Congressman Lance and Somerset County Republican Chairman Al Gaburo rallied the faithful.
Orza was pleased with the event. "This first 'Winter Social' was a success," said Orza. "The crowd was energetic, and it was a diverse group from Bernardsville and all around the Somerset Hills area," he continued. "Everyone who attended appeared to enjoy themselves. This was an inaugural event. Based on the success of last night's event, I am going to recommend to the committee that we hold another social event in the future."
Congressman Lance faces both a primary election challenge and a general election challenge. In the Republican primary, he faces his fourth challenge from Tewksbury business David Larsen. In the general election, Democrat Peter Jacobs has announced that he is seeking the seat.
