GLEN GARDNER, NJ -- Junior quarterback Teddy Gouldin passed for 274 yards and a touchdown and Bernards held off a late rally to hold on for a 30-18 football victory over Voorhees on Friday night.

Bernards (5-1) led, 10-0, at the half on the strength of a 35-yard field goal by Steven Lopez in the first quarter and a 35-yard TD pass from Gouldin to A.J. Mino in the second quarter.

Mike Leanza's 1-yard TD run in the third quarter extended the Mountaineers' lead to 17-0. After Voorhees' first TD of the game on a running play, Luke Burns of Bernards returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a TD and Lopez kicked the PAT for a 24-6 lead.

Two long plays by Voorhees brought the home team back into the game--one a 60-yard interception return and the other a 58-yard TD pass. With Voorhees within 24-18 in the fourth quarter, Pat Caldwell scored on a 6-yard run to put Bernards back up by 12.

Gouldin completed 16 of 29 passes on the night, although Voorhees did intercept him three times. Leanza carried 16 times for 72 yards. Joey Billotti caught four passes for 118 yards. Lucas Ritchie caught five passes for 69 yards.
