BERNARDSVILLE, NJ - Shabazz scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull away from Bernards for a 35-7 football victory in the opening game for both on Friday night.

A 4-yard TD run by Lofton Hoover and Steven Lopez' point-after kick in the second quarter enabled the Mountaineers to tie the game, 7-7. Shabazz scored a TD before halftime to open a 14-7 lead, but Bernards hung tough until the final 12 minutes.

A 60-yard punt return early in the final period gave Shabazz a 21-7 lead. A 24-yard TD pass and a 29-yard TD run later in the fourth quarter closed out the Bulldogs' scoring.

Bernards will play at Roselle at 6 p.m. next Friday before returning home for a game against A.L. Johnson on Sept. 15.
