Franklin Township: Police Investigating Shooting in Somerset Section of Town


SOMERVILLE, N.J. – An investigation regarding a shooting in the Somerset section of Franklin Township is ongoing, according to law officials. 

"Detectives from the Franklin Township Police Department, along with detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene to conduct the investigation," Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said in a news release. "The investigation thus far has revealed that this was an isolated incident and the victim was not the intended target."

At approximately 11:48 p.m., a 9-1-1 call was received by the Franklin Township Police Department reporting gunshots in the area of Baier Avenue, according to police.

Responding officers located an 18-year-old female near Baier Avenue, suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her lower extremity, according to police. 

The victim was given medical aid by officers and transported to a local trauma center for emergency treatment.
