Girls Lacrosse: Bernards Beats West Essex, 5-4, for Sectional Championship


BERNARDSVILLE, NJ - Bernards scored all its goals in the first half and held on for a 5-4 victory over West Essex to win the NJSIAA Section 2, Group 2 state girls lacrosse tournament on Thursday.

Paige Petty scored three goals for the Mountaineers (18-3), who built a 5-3 lead at halftime. Laurel McHale scored one goal and assisted on two others, and Annie Thomas scored a goal for Bernards. Anna Tamke of Bernards made four saves.

Julia Russo scored two goals for West Essex (9-11), which got a goal apiece from Julia Schmulewitz and Jordyn Thies.
