Girls Lacrosse: Bernards Blows Out Hillsborough, 14-4, in Opener


BERNARDSVILLE, NJ - The Bernards girls lacrosse team built an 11-goal lead in the first half and went on to a 14-4 victory over Hillsborough in its opening game Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Paige Petty, who amassed 104 goals last year, scored six goals and had two assists for Bernards, which opened a 12-1 lead by halftime. Laurel McHale finished with three goals and three assists, and sophomore Madison Paulik scored two goals. McHale had a 68-point season as a junior.

Lily Simon contributed a goal and two assists, Hanna Christian had one goal and one assist, and Annie Thomas also scored a goal for the Mountaineers, who are coming off an 18-4 season in 2016.

Bernards had two goalkeepers in the game. Anna Tamke made four saves and Charlotte Grimm stopped a pair of shots.
