Girls Lacrosse: Bernards Outscores Sparta, 16-15, in Group 2 Semifinal


WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ - Paige Petty scored six goals, including the game-winner with 7:15 left, to give Bernards a 16-15 victory over Sparta in the semifinal round of the NJSIAA Group 2 girls lacrosse tournament on Wednesday.

Petty also finished with three assists for Bernards (19-3), which will play Haddonfield Saturday at 2 p.m. at Kean University in Union for the Group 2 championship. Bernards was the state Group 2 runner-up last season.

Laurel McHale scored five goals and had two assists, and Elise Cohan's two goals gave her 100 for her career at Bernards. Hanna Christian and Ann Gillis each notched one goal and one assist, and Annie Thomas helped her teammates with four assists.

Anna Tamke made six saves, including a key stop in the final minute that prevented Sparta (18-3) from tying the game.

Franklin Township: Township Clerk Reinstated and Charges Dismissed

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Insurance fraud charges against Franklin Township Clerk Ann Marie McCarthy have been dropped, according to officials. 

"Ann Marie McCarthy has been reinstated," Township Manager Bob Vornlocker said in an email. "All charges filed by the Somerset County Prosecutor have been unconditionally administratively dismissed."
