Girls Soccer: Bernards Gets Past Summit, 2-1

SUMMIT, NJ - Tbe Bernards girls soccer team defeated Summit, 2-1, Tuesday to extend its winning streak to three games.

Lauren Bogdan scored off an assist from Elizabeth Coury to give the Mountaineers (12-3) a 1-0 lead. After Summit tied the game, 1-1, Coury connected herself on a cross from Makenna Davis to give Bernards the lead late in the first half. Neither team scored in the second half.

Last Saturday, Bernards defeated Pingry, 2-1, to advance in the first round of the Somerset County Tournament in Martinsville. Kate Brito headed home a corner from Eleanor Taylor in the first overtime for the golden goal for Bernards in its upset victory.

Ahjin Yoo set up Makenna Davis, who finished from 8 yards out to tie the game four minutes into the first half. Davis hit the post from 18 yards out in the first overtime two minutes before Brito's game-winner. Susan Oberschmidt made 16 saves in the victory over Pingry, and stopped 14 more shots against Summit.

The Mountaineers will face Watchung Hills in the quarterfinal round of the Somerset County Tournament Saturday at 11 a.m. in Warren.
