Girls Swimming: Bernards Juggernaut Buries West Essex

BERNARDSVILLE NJ - The Bernards High School Girls Swim Team came one step closer to a sectional championship yesterday with a 112-58 victory over third seed West Essex at the Somerset Hills YMCA.  The Mounties move on to face the number one seed, Caldwell High School in the finals of the NJSIAA North 2, Group C championship.

According to the summary published by Bernards High Coach, Ed Tsuzuki, Bernards won every event except for the final relay.  They also finished first and second, or first and third in every event except for the 500 meter freestyle and the final relay.  Leading the way with two individual wins were Megan Sardis, who won in the butterfly and the backstroke, and Izzy Piccone, who posted victories in the 200 meter and 500 meter freestyle. 

Mallika Neji, Caroline Van Dijk, Caroline Casella, and Jessica Snyder each took one event.  

Bernards improved their overall record to 11-2.  They will compete again on Friday, February 17 at 5:30 PM at the Raritan Bay Area YMCA, which is located at 357 New Brunswick Avenue in Perth Amboy.
